Keep in touch with your family!

July 13, 2012

More deceased estates trouble this week. This one’s as doosy!

I got a call from the granddaughter of a fellow that passed away a little over a month ago.

The full time carer who looked after him told the funeral directors that she was his de facto and arranged a funeral without telling the family!

The family found out about the death via Facebook, a couple of days ago.

The family cannot do much at the moment because the deceased appointed a Trustee company as the executor. The executor is in the process of taking an audit of the property left behind, but some precious possessions already seem to have gone missing and the carer had access to the bank account until a couple of days ago.

The police are involved already.

The carer is still living at the house but has been given until the end of the month to vacate. She has already indicated that that will be too soon.

This one could get rather interesting, but the family needs to be wary of spending a lot of money and getting nowhere very far.

The moral of this story - “Keep in touch with your family”!
