YouTube Copyright Dispute

This week we received an enquiry about a breach of copyright.

Our  client claims to own the copyright in several documentaries which have been posted on YouTube

At least 3 individuals have posted films on YouTube without permission.

There have been a total of over 2.2 million views.

At an average of US$9.90 per thousand views, that’s nearly $22k that could be claimed as well as an injunction preventing them being republished without permission.

In the first instance, we’ve suggested that the they use the Google  complaints service to get the offending posts taken down, but at that rate, it will be worth creating their own YouTube account and uploading the films.

It might be possible to simply leave them up, but channel the revenue to the true copyright owner.
